Pickleball with Holme Valley U3A

We started our U3A Pickleball group in January 2024, we were all new to pickleball and, to be honest, we didn’t know if we would have enough interest to sustain a group. What started tentatively on a trial basis has grown rather quickly to a group of more than 40 enthusiastic players. In fact, we’re so popular now that we run three sessions each week.

You might be wondering – why is our pickleball group so popular? Maybe because the game is easy to pick up, strategic, and competitive (in nice way!). Pickleball really is a fun, lively game; it’s been described as a bit of a mixture between badminton, tennis and chess. New players have commented on how welcoming our group is, and how it’s easy to join in, and we’ve yet to have a session without laughter on the court.

We’re so keen to keep developing the group that three of our members have recently achieved Pickleball England’s Pickleball Leaders Certification.

Together we’ve discovered a new sport, developed our skills, made new friends, and enhanced our wellbeing. Another Holme Valley U3A success!

U3A members play three sessions every Wednesday and booking is essential. 12.30-1.30, 1.30-2.30, 2.30-3.30pm, £3 per session, cash, pay at session.
